Muddy Creek Athletics, Inc. is the premier source for youth volleyball players who are seeking to learn from some of the most knowledgeable, passionate, and experienced coaches in northeastern Maryland. Coupling tried and true methods with the latest coaching techniques; our goal is to combine intensity with intelligence to build a more complete athlete. Working with players to help them reach the apex of the game is what we are all about.

Stephen Swann
Steve is both the founder of Muddy Creek Athletics as well as the head clinician/technical director. He has over 25 years of court time as both a player and a coach. He has experience at multiple levels of the game spanning from juniors all the way up to NCAA Division III. His players have gone on to play at nearly every level including NCAA Division I and even more have joined the coaching ranks from juniors all the way to the collegiate level. His experience as a coach includes:
Reservoir High School Lady Gators, 8 seasons, 2 State Finals Appearances(2A & 3A), 1 State Championship (3A)
Notre Dame of Maryland University (NCAA Division III), 4 seasons, 4 consecutive CSAC conference tournament appearances, 2 conference semifinals
University of Maryland Women’s Volleyball Club, 3 seasons, D-1 National Champion Runner Up

Barbara McDowell
Bobbi has been playing volleyball competitively since 2010. In addition to playing at Bishop McNamara High School (BMHS), she played for multiple clubs including Maryland Juniors and Firebird Volleyball Club. Bobbi has played several positions throughout her volleyball career, but has spent a majority of her time on the court as a middle blocker or right-side hitter. After graduating from BMHS, Bobbi continued her volleyball career at Notre Dame of Maryland University (NDMU). As a coach, she has helped numerous players at the JV and Varsity level improve their games with players achieving success after high school at all levels of collegiate play.

Led the CSAC in total blocks, blocks per set, and hitting percentage multiple times over her career

Sarah Markland
Sarah spent the majority of her teenage years on the volleyball court and is excited to be bringing her knowledge of the game to the coaching world. Currently still an active player at the collegiate level, Sarah’s knowledge of the game coupled with her passion to help players improve makes her a valuable resource for player who are looking to improve their game.
Played club for Baltimore Elite and Intensity Volleyball Club
4-year standout at setter for the BelAir High School Lady Bobcats - State Finalist as a Junior and State Quarterfinalist as a Senior
2 seasons playing for the Harford Community College Lady Fighting Owls - led the squad to a MD NJCAA Conference Title in 2021

Danielle Spigler
Danielle grew up in Connecticut and discovered a love for volleyball as a freshman in high school. Danielle played for her varsity team in high school, and continued to play recreationally in college, where she met her husband on the volleyball court. She graduated from Loyola College with a degree in Spanish and Secondary Education and participated in adult leagues through college and after graduation. She currently coaches at C. Milton Wright, as the assistant coach for the Varsity Girls’ program. She is currently in her fourth season at C. Milton Wright, and is proud to have coached them to a Regional Championship in 2023. She loves sharing her passion for volleyball by helping players grow their skills to play at the next level. Her coaching philosophy is that in order to be competitive, you must put in the work to learn the skills necessary to continue to grow as a player. When she’s not working and coaching, Coach Danielle stays busy volunteering, spending time with her three children and husband, and her favorite place to do that is at the beach!
